Southwestern Restorations...when you want it done right.
Southwestern Restorations originated in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the 1970's, specializing in the restoration of classic Navajo blankets, Germantowns, flat weavings, as well as some Plains Indians beadwork. Nancye H. Briggs has continued to improve her techniques to aid in the restoration of fine textiles, enabling your pieces to be returned to you in a timely manner. Her hand cleaning and weaving methods are used to preserve these valuable pieces of Native American history. Every effort is made to hand dye, spin, and re-weave the wool fibers to its original condition. Nancye has restored in excess of 5,000 weavings for dealers, museums, and private collectors. Being a dealer herself, she also buys, sells, and trades old Navajo weavings.
Though raised in Texas, Nancye is a native New Mexican. She studied various forms of art at Texas Christian University and The Commercial Art School of Dallas. Her return to New Mexico in the 1970's led to a deep passion for collecting and learning the history of Navajo weavings. Under Dr. Joe Ben Wheat's instruction, Nancye studied fiber identification, textile periods, and the styles of area weavers. This love of Navajo weavings combined with her art background, has paved the way for the precision needed in matching the many variations of dyed yarns in her restoration work. With the aid of her husband completing her new studio in Texas, Nancye continues her work on projects, both large and small.
